Winter in Paddington - Sydney

Australians have always looked abroad to define their sense of style, but over the past year we have realised that our lifestyle is the most enviable in the world. Our latest collection pays homage to this, with a range of summer, winter and trans-seasonal looks inspired by the uniqueness of our coastal living.

Think boating on the bay followed by lunch in Milsons Point, rugging up for walks along the Esplanade in St. Kilda, day trips to waterside wineries on the west coast, and beach trips up north.

Beyond resort-wear', the collection features complete looks designed to address every scenario in the everyday life of the contemporary Australian man, with bespoke fabrications, and colourways designed specifically for our natural surroundings, active and outdoorsy habits, as well as our unique climate.

We recently caught up with model Marty Thomas in the backstreets of Paddington, to road-test our latest season-less collection. As the season starts to turn, we experimented with a range of looks involving unlined and unstructured garments made from Australian merinos, ice cottons and lightweight suede.

As a well-seasoned traveler thanks to his successful modelling and writing career, Marty has lived in New York, LA, Columbo, Milan and Florence, as well as a private island for a spell in Niguargra.

'I could see these garments fitting in on the streets of any of those great cities, but with an undeniably Australian feel to them,' he notes.

'They're breathable which is great for this in-between sort-of weather. The garment-dyed pieces feel like they've already been worn in and the fit is ideal for my lifestyle".

Our Garment Dyed Shirting

We produce our cottons and linens in Italy, seeking out the finest materials in the world.

The process of "garment-dyeing" is an iconic and distinctive characteristic of Christian Kimber. We work with our colour laboratory using high quality white or raw un-coloured Italian fabric which is washed and dyed as a final manufacturing step. As opposed to the conventional method of manufacturing garments from pre-dyed fabric.

This makes our clothing feel worn-in and softer. They actually get better with age, compared to the other garments in your wardrobe. Most of our shirts, blazers, jackets and trousers have this production process.

Our Linen Garment Dyed Blazer

The softly textured linen is naturally breathable, making it perfect for summer. A double vent and slightly higher armholes, it's left unlined. Think dinners by the coast, or any warm-weather occasion that requires sharp dress. Left unstructured and lined only through the sleeves for lightness, it's tailored from airy linen a softness you can only get from the garment dyed process.
